Well, the TRAX BIKE team has too, and the TRAX BALANCE was designed when we woke up from that dream!

At first glance, the design of the TRAX BALANCE may seem casual or simply aesthetic. But when we talk about paying attention to every detail, we mean all the principles we set out to achieve in creating “The Balance Bike we dreamed of when we imagined being children again.”

FRAME AND FORK DESIGN

When designing the frame, in addition to finding the optimal geometry to make the TRAX BALANCE as functional as possible, we wanted an aesthetic that resembles an adult bicycle. Not only does it look amazing, but every child loves riding a bike that looks like the ones used by their role models.

The design was developed around the following principles:

Lightweight construction, weighing around 3 kg.
Tire clearance for tires up to 2.3” wide.
Compatibility with a rear V-Brake.
Internal brake cable routing.
Footrest mounting points.
A-Headset steering system with Anti-Crossing technology.
2.25" AIR-FILLED TIRES

The choice of this tire width is not only about aesthetics; it is based on much more important considerations.

Physiological Benefits

On a balance bike, there are only two contact points between the bicycle and the child: the handlebar and the saddle.

During the research phase prior to the design process, cases of discomfort and even injuries caused by prolonged saddle contact were identified. In some cases, children had to temporarily stop using their bikes to allow for recovery.

By using 2.25-inch tires inflated to the correct pressure, a cushioning effect is achieved that helps prevent this type of discomfort and injury.

Functional Benefits

The TRAX BALANCE has been designed for children who want to expand their skills during their first experiences on two wheels.

The 2.25-inch tire allows the 12-inch wheel to roll more effectively over all kinds of terrain, especially when encountering off-road trails, curbs, or small steps.

REAR BRAKE

The addition of a rear brake is mainly based on two key reasons:

Introducing Braking Skills

From around the age of three, children understand the concept of braking and can begin learning how to use a brake before moving on to a pedal bike.

New Adventures

Thanks to its design and tire setup, the TRAX BALANCE allows children to confidently tackle small descents and off-road terrain. In these situations, the rear brake becomes a valuable ally.

A V-Brake system was chosen for its balance of braking power and safety. During development, disc brakes were considered, but ultimately rejected due to the increased risk of finger injuries.

INTERNAL CABLE ROUTING

Although internal cable routing may seem like an excessive detail for a balance bike, it not only creates a cleaner appearance but also helps protect the brake cable and components from accidental interference or damage.

A-HEADSET STEERING SYSTEM

An A-Headset steering system, just like those found on adult bicycles, was selected to ensure precise performance and long-lasting durability.

It also provides enough stiffness for even the most adventurous parents to give the bike a try.

FOOTRESTS

The footrests are an essential feature of the TRAX BALANCE.

Once children master their balance, they can begin lifting their feet and even standing on the bike while riding. This skill is especially valuable for future mountain bikers.

ANTI-CROSSING SYSTEM

The bike features a steering limiter that prevents the handlebar from rotating more than 90°.

This prevents the brake cable from becoming tangled around the head tube.

EXTRA-SOFT SADDLE

An extremely soft foam was selected for the saddle because it is one of the primary contact points between the child and the bicycle.

As with the high-volume tires, this decision was made to maximize comfort, safety, and the prevention of discomfort.

HANDLEBAR GRIPS WITH SIDE PROTECTION

The grips feature side protection specifically designed for young children.

This protection helps prevent hand injuries during falls, especially before children have fully developed the reflex to release the handlebar.
